A five-star Li River vessel is chartered for your party alone for the Guilin-to-Yangshuo run, usually boarding at Mopanshan. You set the departure time, so you can be on the water for the early mist rather than the 09:30 convoy, eat a menu agreed in advance rather than a buffet, and stand on an open deck that is not shoulder to shoulder through the Xingping reach.
The access, explained
Genuine exclusive use of a vessel, but only in the five-star bespoke category and only by direct quotation. Be clear what you are buying: the overwhelming majority of 'private Li River cruise' products online are a private car and guide plus a seat on a scheduled passenger ship. The river itself is a shipping lane and the boats run in a procession, so you will not have the water to yourself.
Planning the details
How to arrange it. Not sold on booking platforms. Charter is quoted case by case through Guilin operators or the official foreign-visitor service line; specify passenger count, route, hours of exclusive use, catering, guide language and return transport. Allow weeks, more around Chinese holidays.
When to go. April to October for water levels; in a dry winter the full Guilin-Yangshuo route is sometimes cut short and boats start downstream.
Ask for written confirmation of the date, duration, guide language, transport, admission and cancellation terms. Any restricted access must be confirmed by the venue.

Good to know
Read the words. 'Private tour' and 'private boat' are different products at perhaps a twentyfold difference in price, and sellers blur them deliberately. A chartered boat also cannot escape the convoy or the haze, and a cheaper honest alternative is a small bamboo raft on the Yangshuo-Xingping stretch at dawn, which gets you closer to the water than any charter.
