Hotel Indigo Dali Erhai
大理洱海天域英迪格酒店
Rooms sit low and close enough to Erhai that guests consistently describe the sensation of being on the lake rather than beside it — which is the one thing the Cangshan hillside hotels cannot do.

Why stay here
255 rooms on a 40,000-square-metre site on Binhai Avenue, directly on the Erhai shore, opened September 2018. Most rooms face the lake; standard lake-view rooms are about 41 square metres and the suites give a 180-degree view down the water.
It is the closest thing Dali has to a design hotel on the water. The lake is immediately outside the window rather than a kilometre below, and guests describe waking up level with it. Guest scores run 9.2 to 9.5 across more than six thousand reviews, the largest sample in Dali.

Rooms worth asking for
A lake-view suite with the 180-degree aspect. Not every room has a lake view despite the marketing, so confirm the category before you pay.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Indigo's standard single restaurant and bar model. No Michelin or Black Pearl listing confirmed.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.

Before you decide
Hotel Indigo is IHG's upscale lifestyle brand, two tiers below luxury, and this is the honest ceiling of what Dali offers — there is no Aman, no Four Seasons and no Rosewood in this prefecture, and anyone telling you otherwise is inflating a four-star. Guests note it is far from everything except the lake. Room sizes are quoted inconsistently across platforms. A German reviewer who stayed after opening praised the design but reported a decisive problem with the stay that I could not retrieve, so read that review before booking.
Location. Binhai Avenue on the Erhai shore; a drive from Dali old town and the Three Pagodas.
