A taste of Chengdu
Gangguanchang Wuqu Xiaojungan Chuanchuanxiang
钢管厂五区小郡肝串串香
The best-known of the Chengdu chuan chuan chains, founded in the late 1980s around a steel-pipe factory housing block — hence the name. Chuan chuan is hotpot disassembled: everything comes pre-skewered on bamboo sticks, you take what you want from a chilled rack, cook it yourself in the bubbling pot, and pay by counting your empty skewers at the end. It is cheaper, faster and far less committing than a full hotpot, and it is how young Chengdu eats on a weeknight.
Typically well under ¥100 per person, since skewers are priced individually at a few yuan each; current prices unconfirmed≈ US$15Multiple branches across Chengdu. No single address or metro station confirmed.
