A taste of Dali

Chunsheng Restaurant

萶苼chunsheng餐厅

A modern Dali kitchen working with Cangshan mountain and Erhai lake produce, plated carefully and aimed at a younger domestic audience. Second-ranked on Ctrip's Dali City list, and the most interesting mid-priced cooking in the old town — closer to a contemporary restaurant than a Bai banquet hall.

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Cangshan mint beef rolls (苍山薄荷牛卷)
  • Wild mushroom dishes in season (时令野生菌)
  • Erhai lake fish (洱海鱼)

What it actually tastes like

Raw mint is used as a vegetable, in quantity, not as a garnish — a Yunnan habit that catches people out. Flowers and wild greens appear on the plate and are meant to be eaten.

Allergens in this kitchen

fishdairysoygluten/wheatsesametree nuts

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
