A taste of Dali

Meizijing Jiujia (two-hundred-year courtyard)

梅子井酒家(两百年古院店)

A long-established Yunnan restaurant in a courtyard house in Dali Old Town, named after the plum well in its yard. It is one of the older names in the old town and does the Dian repertoire rather than strictly Bai dishes — tile-grilled pork and shredded chicken with cold jelly are the orders people come back for.

¥80–100 per person≈ US$12Dali Old Town (大理古城). Exact street not confirmed.

Why come here

A place worth making time for

No verifiable award. A long-standing old town name reported at around ¥87 per person, known for tile-grilled pork and shredded-chicken cold jelly.

The house favourites

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Tile-grilled pork (瓦片烤肉)
  • Shredded chicken with cold jelly (鸡丝凉粉)
  • Clay pot fish (砂锅鱼)
  • Plum wine (梅子酒)

What it actually tastes like

Cold jelly dishes are served cool, with vinegar and chilli, and the texture is slippery — a common surprise. Tile-grilled pork is fatty by design.

Allergens in this kitchen

fishsoygluten/wheatsesamepeanut

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
