A taste of Lijiang

Yunxueli, Mufu Tusi Culture Yunnan Kitchen

云雪丽·木府土司文化·现炒云南菜

A Naxi courtyard restaurant in the old town themed on the Mu family chieftains who ruled Lijiang, doing wok-cooked Yunnan dishes to order plus the Naxi classics. Staff in ethnic dress and a courtyard setting make it the most presentable option for a single celebratory dinner inside Dayan, with the tourist premium that implies.

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Naxi cured pork ribs (纳西腊排骨)
  • Naxi grilled fish (纳西烤鱼)
  • Fried rushan milk fan with rose jam (玫瑰烤乳扇)
  • Stir-fried wild mushrooms (炒野生菌)

What it actually tastes like

Rushan is a stretched cow's-milk cheese grilled on a skewer and brushed with rose jam — a dairy product in a country that mostly has none, and a real problem if you are lactose intolerant. Grilled fish arrives whole and is stuffed with herbs and chilli.

Allergens in this kitchen

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
