Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou at West Lake
Why stay here
78 rooms in low-slung Jiangnan-style pavilions across about 17 acres of gardens, ponds and waterways on the quiet northwest shore of West Lake, by the Yanggong Causeway. It is a resort, not a city hotel, and its density is low enough that you can go a whole stay without meeting another guest outside the lobby.
The best-run hotel in Hangzhou and the only one with two Michelin Keys. It combines a West Lake address you can walk from with resort-scale grounds and a one-star restaurant on site. If you are picking one hotel in Hangzhou and want no compromises, this is the answer.
Jin Sha, one Michelin star in the 2026 Hangzhou guide, built as eleven free-standing dining pavilions around a garden lagoon rather than a dining room. Private rooms with their own water view is a format no other hotel restaurant in the city offers.
Rooms worth asking for
A Lake View or Garden Suite with a terrace. Rooms here are large because it is a resort rather than a business hotel, and the ones facing the water and gardens are materially better than the inward-facing categories.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Jin Sha (one Michelin star, Hangzhou and Cantonese cooking in garden pavilions) and a Western restaurant. Jin Sha is the reason to eat in.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
A full spa with an outdoor pool in the gardens. Good, and the garden setting makes it more pleasant than a basement spa in a tower.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

Published room counts disagree, 78 in the Michelin text and 81 in the same page's structured data, which tells you something about how carefully these numbers are kept. Its West Lake frontage is on the quieter northwest side, which is lovely but means the famous causeways and Hefang Street are a drive, not a stroll. It is the most conventional of Hangzhou's top properties: beautifully executed Four Seasons resort, no particular idea of its own, and it is priced accordingly. Rooms on the lower floors of the pavilions can feel overlooked from the garden paths.
Location. Northwest shore of West Lake near the Yanggong Causeway and the Botanical Garden. A walk or short drive to Lingyin and the tea villages; 15-20 minutes to the city centre.
