Banyan Tree Lijiang
丽江悦榕庄
A three-bedroom Mountain View Pool Villa runs to 980 square metres. That is not a room, it is a compound, and it is why families and groups take this over the Aman.

Why stay here
Villas only, on Yuerong Road at Shuhe, 2,400 metres up on the plain at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Michelin's listing counts 55 villas; other sources say 122 villas and suites, so the figure depends on whether residences are included. Every villa faces the mountain and has either a jet pool, plunge pool or full private pool, in a courtyard-house plan drawn from Naxi architecture.
All villas, all facing the mountain, all with private water. It is the only property in Lijiang where you can be in your own courtyard with the snow peak in front of you and nobody else in sight — the opposite proposition to Amandayan's hilltop over the town.

Rooms worth asking for
A Mountain View Pool Villa. The garden-view villas sacrifice the only thing the site has.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
One restaurant and a bar. No Michelin or Black Pearl listing confirmed, and dining is the thin part of the offer.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
Banyan Tree's spa is the group's core competence and the strongest reason to pick it over the Aman if treatments matter more than views of the town.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

Before you decide
Published villa counts differ by more than a factor of two between Michelin and other sources, which suggests the resort has sold off or reclassified part of its inventory. It is out on the plain, so Lijiang Old Town and Shuhe are both a drive, and there is nowhere to walk to in the evening. Michelin shows no verified guest stays. Much of the available English review material dates from 2018. At 2,400 metres, the unheated outdoor pools are unusable for much of the year — check which villa category has an indoor or heated option.
Location. Shuhe, Gucheng District, on the plain below Jade Dragon Snow Mountain; about 40 minutes from Lijiang airport.
