Why stay here
362 rooms including 44 suites, in a low-rise riverside block in Pudong just south of Lujiazui, set in its own gardens on the Huangpu. It is unusual among Pudong luxury hotels in being horizontal rather than a tower in the top of an office building, so the garden, pool and restaurants are at ground level with the river in front.
The best rooms-per-yuan in Shanghai's top tier, and the only Pudong hotel where you can walk out into a garden on the waterfront rather than wait for a lift from the 85th floor. Rooms are large, the river views face the Bund rather than away from it, and there is a one-star restaurant in the building. One Michelin Key.

Rooms worth asking for
A River View room or a suite on a high floor facing northwest, so you are looking at the Bund and the Lujiazui towers rather than south into Pudong. The city-view rooms face the least interesting part of Shanghai.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Yong Yi Ting (one Michelin star, Jiangnan), Fifty 8 Grill, and the Riviera. Yong Yi Ting's value rating from guests is noticeably lower than its food rating.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
A very large spa, one of the biggest in Shanghai, with an indoor pool and a long treatment menu. Genuinely good and more affordable than the Bulgari equivalent.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

It is slightly out of the way, which guests say repeatedly: not in Lujiazui, not on the Bund, and a taxi from most things. Breakfast is in a basement room that guests describe as dark and short of seats at peak times. At 362 rooms it carries a lot of group and corporate business. The hotel opened in 2013 and reviewers now note minor maintenance issues, and opinion on value is split. Yong Yi Ting has drawn recent criticism for playing it safe and for service lapses, and its star has been in place long enough that it is coasting on it in some diners' view.
Location. Pudong, on the Huangpu south of Lujiazui near the Expo site. Metro and a hotel shuttle; 15-20 minutes by car to the Bund.
