A taste of Beijing
Bao Yuan Dumplings
宝源饺子屋
Famous for naturally coloured dumpling wrappers (spinach, carrot, purple cabbage) across dozens of fillings, including several genuinely meat-free ones.
Why come here
A place worth making time for
Michelin Bib Gourmand, 2026 MICHELIN Guide Beijing.
The house favourites
What to order
Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.
- Pork and fennel dumplings (猪肉茴香饺)
- Coloured dumpling assortment (彩色饺子)
- Lamb and coriander dumplings (羊肉香菜饺)
- Smashed cucumber salad (拍黄瓜)
What it actually tastes like
Fennel-filled dumplings have a strong aniseed note that divides people, and the house dipping setup is vinegar-forward rather than soy-forward. Otherwise genuinely straightforward food.
Allergens in this kitchen
This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
