Discover Guilin and Yangshuo
Yinzi Cave (Silver Cave)
银子岩
A 2 km limestone cave system on three levels, the largest around Yangshuo, with stalactite curtains and flowstone that genuinely glitter under white rather than coloured lighting. Many visitors rate it above Reed Flute Cave.

The story
What makes this place special
Yinzi Yan, Silver Cave, is a limestone cave at Maling in Lipu, about 85km from Guilin and around 18km from Yangshuo. It runs through twelve hills, and the name comes from the formations: unusually white and crystalline calcite that catches the light like silver. It has been developed as a show cave with a formal list of highlights - the 'three marvels' being the Snow Mountain Waterfall, the Musical Stone Screen and the Jade Pool Fairyland, and the 'three treasures' the Buddha Expounding the Scriptures, the Mixed-Origin Pearl Umbrella and the Single Pillar Propping Up the Sky. The lighting was upgraded in recent years with 3D projection and augmented-reality installations.
What you’ll discover
A long one-way walk-through on built paths through chambers of dense stalactite and stalagmite formations, with the named features pointed out in turn - the white cascade of flowstone, the thin stone screen that rings when struck, and the pool chamber. It is lit throughout in coloured light, now with projection effects, and is generally reckoned the best of the show caves around Guilin for the quality and whiteness of the formations rather than for the presentation.
A little local insight
Good to know before you go
- If you are doing one cave in Guangxi, this is usually reckoned the better one. Reed Flute Cave is closer to Guilin and more famous; Yinzi's formations are whiter and denser, and the cave is longer.
- It is a long way out - roughly halfway between Guilin and Yangshuo, off the expressway in Lipu - so it works as a stop on the transfer between the two cities, not as a trip from either.
- The projection and AR effects divide people. Visitors who want geology find the light show intrusive; if that is you, ask whether there is a quieter entry time, and look at the stone rather than the colour.
- Tap the Musical Stone Screen if the guide invites it - the thin flowstone sheet genuinely rings at different pitches, and it is the one feature here that is not about looks.
- Cool and damp year round, so a layer in winter and a welcome escape in summer, and the floors are permanently wet.
When to come
Any weather and any time of day, since it is all underground and artificially lit - which makes it the right choice on a wet day when the karst views are gone. Avoid the midday coach waves if you can.
Getting around
Limited. The route is a built, railed concrete path rather than natural cave floor, but it includes substantial flights of steps, narrow and low sections, and it is one-way with no turning back, and the surfaces are always wet. Not usable in a wheelchair. With a bad knee it is a long walk with repeated stairs - ask at the ticket desk about the step count before committing.
Worth knowing before you go
Entry is in guided groups on a fixed route, so arriving just as a group forms saves a wait. Bring a light jacket - the cave is cool and the floor is wet.
