A taste of Qingdao

Wanhechun

万和春

A rib-rice fast-food chain trading since 1941 and a recognised China Time-honoured Brand. One dish, done the same way for eighty years: ribs braised in a clay pot, tipped over rice. Cheap, fast and genuinely local.

Why come here

A place worth making time for

Recognised as a 中华老字号 (Chinese time-honoured brand), founded 1941; no Michelin or Black Pearl distinction

The house favourites

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Pork ribs over rice, the only thing to order (排骨米饭)
  • Braised egg or tofu as a side (卤蛋 / 豆腐)

What it actually tastes like

Bones stay in; this is ribs on the bone over rice, eaten with chopsticks and fingers. Otherwise entirely straightforward — soy-braised, savoury, no chilli, no fermentation.

Allergens in this kitchen

soygluten/wheatsesameegg

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
