Why stay here
350 rooms at No. 3 Xingan Road in Zhujiang New Town, with five restaurants and lounges. Lai Heen is its Michelin-starred Cantonese room. It opened in 2008 and has held Forbes Five-Star continuously since — the brand claims ten consecutive years, a Michelin-affiliated listing says twelve.
The longest unbroken Forbes Five-Star record of any hotel in Guangzhou, and the only one of the CBD four that is a low-rise with a garden and an outdoor pool rather than a tower. Lai Heen is the quieter of the city's starred hotel Cantonese rooms and easier to get into than Jiang.

Rooms worth asking for
Not established — the Club Level rooms are the usual recommendation at this brand but I found no reliable account of which aspect is worth paying for here.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Lai Heen (Cantonese, Michelin-starred), plus four further restaurants and lounges.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
A full spa and health club with an outdoor pool. Not independently rated at the level of the Mandarin Oriental's.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

Before you decide
This is a 2008 building, now the oldest of Guangzhou's four luxury hotels, and the sources disagree on its own Forbes record, which suggests the citations are being carried forward rather than checked. Verify the hotel's current brand status and Forbes rating at the time you book: the available evidence is brand pages and listing sites, with no dated 2025 or 2026 reporting on it either way, and one guest review mentions an on-site retail closure. It has no view — the towers took those.
Location. Zhujiang New Town, Xingan Road, by the Guangzhou Opera House and the Canton Tower river frontage.
