The Sugar House pool courtyard and converted mill architecture
Why stay here
A design-led hotel built through a former 1960s sugar mill beside the Li River, combining the original brick industrial buildings with contemporary guest-room wings and a pool framed by the old loading structure.
This is Yangshuo's strongest architecture choice and the right counterpoint to a conventional landscape resort. It suits travellers who want the building, art programme and river setting to carry the stay and who are comfortable using a car or bicycle rather than being in the centre of town.
The retained sugar-mill trusses, brickwork and river loading platform give the pool and public rooms a specific industrial history rather than applied local decoration.
Rooms worth asking for
A river-facing room in the contemporary wing for light and landscape, after confirming the exact orientation. Heritage-building romance is concentrated in public spaces; not every room looks into the old mill.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Chinese-led dining and a bar occupy restored mill spaces. Check current opening days for special dining or cultural programmes, since resort schedules can change outside peak periods.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
Treatment and fitness facilities are available, but the main reason to stay is architecture and atmosphere rather than a large destination-spa programme.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

The industrial design is more compelling than the immediate road approach, and the hotel is not central. Dark materials and long concrete corridors will feel atmospheric to some guests and severe to others. River-facing inventory should be confirmed explicitly rather than inferred from the hotel name or photographs.
Location. South of central Yangshuo on the Li River, reached by car rather than a practical evening walk from West Street.
Prices are indicative, not live availability. Confirm the total including taxes, meals, transfers and cancellation terms on the provider’s checkout before committing.
