A taste of Guangzhou

Dian Dou De

点都德

Guangzhou's most widely spread modern dim sum chain, with branches in Tianhe, Beijing Road and elsewhere. Unlike traditional teahouses, it serves dim sum all day with picture menus and phone ordering, so it is the easiest first yum cha for a foreigner. It is a chain, so it is a convenience pick rather than a heritage one.

¥80–105 per person≈ US$12One reported branch: Lake-side Intime (湖滨银泰) C2, 4F, 258 Yan'an Road, Yuexiu, near Longxiangqiao station exit D1 on Line 1 (Chinese source). Other branches exist.

Why come here

A place worth making time for

Popular modern dim sum chain with English picture menus. No award confirmed.

The house favourites

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Red rice rolls with shrimp and fried dough (金莎红米肠)
  • Shrimp dumplings (虾饺皇)
  • Barbecued pork buns (叉烧包)
  • Steamed rice rolls (肠粉)

What it actually tastes like

Menus mix familiar items with chicken feet (凤爪), tripe and lard-laden pastries; check photos before ordering.

Allergens in this kitchen

shellfishgluten/wheatsesameeggsoy

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
