A taste of Guilin and Yangshuo

Haitian Rice Noodle Rolls (Taiping Road)

海天肠粉(太平路店)

A cheap, busy breakfast counter doing Cantonese-style steamed rice noodle rolls, which Guilin eats as much as it eats noodles thanks to its proximity to Guangdong. The rolls are steamed to order on cloth, slid out soft and dressed with sweet soy. It is the best-value sit-down meal on Ctrip's Guilin list.

What to order

Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.

  • Prawn rice noodle rolls (虾仁肠粉)
  • Pork and egg rice noodle rolls (猪肉蛋肠粉)

What it actually tastes like

The dressing is noticeably sweet. Otherwise this is one of the most straightforward things a nervous eater can order in Guangxi.

Allergens in this kitchen

This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
