What to order
Point at the Chinese. Staff will understand it even where the menu has no English at all.
What it actually tastes like
The classic sanxiaguo contains offal — pig intestine is one of the three traditional components — so say so when ordering if that is a problem, and most places will swap in chicken or cured pork. Sour pickled radish arrives as a side and is meant to cut the fat. Heat level is real but not Sichuan-numbing.
Allergens in this kitchen
soygluten/wheatfishsesame
This is the kitchen, not one dish. Woks, fryers, blanching water and utensils are shared in almost every Chinese restaurant, so for a serious allergy treat the whole premises as the unit rather than ordering around it.
