The character of the place

Why stay here

A 283-room hotel in the CBD opposite the CCTV tower, built around a tall internal atrium that borrows the stacked-courtyard logic of a hutong compound. Rooms are furnished as studies rather than hotel rooms, with bookshelves, cloisonne pieces and a copy of a Chinese classical novel in each.

The strongest design and the strongest in-house dining of the big modern Beijing hotels, with two Michelin Keys and a one-star restaurant. It is also the most reliably good at the thing international guests complain about elsewhere in Beijing, which is rooms that feel considered rather than issued.

The House of Dynasties, one Michelin star, built around Dream of the Red Chamber: seven private dining rooms and a very small public section, serving Cantonese-influenced cooking. You can eat at a Michelin-starred table without leaving the building, which in Beijing traffic is worth more than it sounds.

Make the stay your own

Rooms worth asking for

A Manor Club room or above. Club access here includes all-day food and drink in a lounge that is actually pleasant, and in a 283-room hotel it is the difference between feeling like a guest and feeling like a delegate.

Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.

At the table

Dining & the evening ahead

The House of Dynasties (one Michelin star, Cantonese), Bistrot B, and Country Kitchen for northern Chinese cooking under chef Zhang Shaogang. Dining is a real reason to stay here.

Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.

Time for yourself

Spa, pool & wellbeing

Sense spa plus a well-equipped gym and pool. Competent rather than a draw.

Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

Before you decide

The location is poor if you came to see old Beijing: it is a business district, and reviewers who wanted hutongs have said so plainly. Watch the incidentals, including a recent guest billed ¥336 for two bottles of sparkling water without being told the price. At 283 rooms with heavy corporate and events business, service consistency varies by how busy the week is, and the atrium design means some rooms look into the building rather than out of it.

Location. Central Business District, Chaoyang, by the CCTV headquarters. Subway Line 10; good for the CBD and Sanlitun.

Prices are indicative, not live availability. Confirm the total including taxes, meals, transfers and cancellation terms on the provider’s checkout before committing.
