Why stay here
A large tower hotel in the Suzhou New District west of the old city, the long-established international business hotel in the city. Rooms are generously sized and well equipped, with the Chinese-market fittings guests notice, air purifiers, smart toilet seats, good hairdryers.
It is the most reliable large hotel in Suzhou for service, with one of the best hotel breakfasts in China by repeated guest account, and a Shangri-La operation that has been running here long enough to be properly drilled. If you want big rooms, a good pool and no surprises at a reasonable rate, it delivers.

Rooms worth asking for
A Horizon Club room. Club access here is the difference-maker in a hotel of this size and the lounge is genuinely useful.
Note the exact room or suite name before opening the booking provider, along with any connecting-room, step-free access or celebration requests.
Dining & the evening ahead
Several restaurants including Chinese and all-day dining. Competent; nothing starred.
Request restaurant availability alongside your stay. Tasting menus, private dining and dietary arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Spa, pool & wellbeing
An indoor pool and gym, both well used and well rated. A conventional hotel spa.
Ask which facilities are included with your room, whether treatments require advance reservations, and whether any seasonal closures affect your stay.

The building is over a decade old and it shows: guests describe rooms as well appointed but ageing, and one experienced reviewer put it bluntly, that the facility was ten-plus years old and felt more like a premium domestic Chinese hotel than an international brand in a city like Suzhou. It holds no Michelin Keys and does not appear in Michelin's Suzhou list. Be careful which hotel you are reading about: there is a separate Shangri-La Yuanqu, Suzhou, in the industrial park, and reviews for the two are routinely mixed together, with the Yuanqu property drawing complaints about overheated rooms and windows that do not open. The New District location is a business district, not a destination.
Location. Suzhou New District (Xinqu), west of the old city near the Tiger Hill side. About 15-20 minutes by car to the old city and the gardens.
